OVERVIEW
Charlie Bakery is a small-batch bakery in Torquay, Victoria, creating handmade pastries and breads rooted in simplicity and quality ingredients. The goal was to develop a brand identity that reflected the warmth, craft and natural character of the bakery while remaining refined and memorable.
The identity needed to feel artisanal and inviting while still presenting the business with confidence and professionalism.
THE CHALLENGE
Many bakery brands lean heavily into rustic or overly decorative aesthetics. For Charlie, the challenge was to create something that felt handcrafted and organic without becoming cluttered or cliché.
The brand needed to communicate:
• Artisan baking and quality ingredients
• Warmth and approachability
• A natural, grounded aesthetic
• Simplicity that would translate across packaging, signage and digital platforms
The visual identity needed to feel authentic to the product while remaining versatile for future growth.
THE STRATEGY
The brand direction centred around organic forms and soft, natural tones to reflect the bakery’s handmade approach.
The icon draws inspiration from wheat and natural ingredients, symbolising the raw materials behind every product. Its flowing lines create a sense of movement and craft, reinforcing the idea of baking as a careful, hands-on process.
The handwritten-style typography for “Charlie” introduces a personal, welcoming touch, balancing the structured icon and giving the brand a friendly and approachable personality.
Together, the elements create a brand identity that feels natural, calm and distinctly artisanal.
